The Canterbury Television building in Christchurch, which collapsed in the earthquake that hit the New Zealand city in February 2010, did not meet construction standards. A Government report has called the six-storey building ‘technically inadequate’; the building’s collapse accounted for 115 deaths – almost two-thirds of the quake’s victims.
